Botox®, Dysport®, Nucieva® and Xeomin® are brand names for Botulinum toxin. They are also called neuromodulators. Botulinum toxin has been used in cosmetic procedures since 1987. It is an effective and safe way to slow down the aging process by temporarily relaxing overworked facial muscles that cause lines and wrinkles. Neuromodulators are approved by Health Canada and the FDA for cosmetic use. Tiny needles are used to inject small amount of toxin in facial muscle which will result in temporary relaxation of that muscle. The skin over that muscle will not get pulled any more so no lines will be formed. Over the time though, if not treated, fine lines will become deeper creases in a skin and will form static lines that will not go away even if you are relaxed. The good news are that you can also treat those with neuromodulators. You would need to come for regular treatments just before old toxin will wear off from your body so there will be no muscle activity. Overtime the static line will become softer creating fresh and youthful appearance. Combination treatments should be used in these cases to treat the skin also which will expedite the process to smoother and glowing skin. In addition other contributing factors needed to be considered when assessing the wrinkles such as sun damage, genetics, a poor diet, or smoking.
Aesthetic injector will determine the amount of toxin and areas needed to be treated during a consultation.
The onset of effect will be in 2-4 days however the full results will be seen in 2 weeks post injection. Depending on individuals’ metabolism and other factors as well as areas treated, the effect will last from three to six months.
Refrain from drinking alcohol and taking blood thinning medications and supplemets such as Advil, Aspirin, Aleve, Motrin, Fish oil, Omega-3, Ginko biloba, Vitamin E and garlic for a few days prior to your appointment. We will also ask you to avoid exposure to heat such as saunas and hot tubs post treatment so you should be prepared to make an arrangements.
Yes, after your appointment you can return to your normal activities. You would only need to stay upright for four hours post injections. You would also have a small mosquito like bumps in the spots of injections which will go away in less than an hour.

Hyperhidrosis Botox Treatment
Many people avoid sweating, and when they do, they go to great lengths to conceal it. However, sweating is actually good for the body. Sweat glands help the body filter out toxins, which boosts the immune system. Sweating also cools down the body and ensures proper body temperature, leads to increased thirst, which prompts us to drink more water, allows skin pores to open up for a protective barrier against pathogens, eliminates salt from the body, helping prevent kidney stones, and improves circulation throughout the organs, tissue, and muscles. But is there such a thing as sweating too much?
What is Hyperhidrosis?
While sweating is good for the body, hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating, is not. Hyperhidrosis occurs when you sweat outside the normal needs of the body, such as when you sweat when it is not too hot. When you sweat excessively at night, when your clothes get soaked in sweat, when sweat drips off your body, and when sweat cannot be regulated with antiperspirants, you probably have hyperhidrosis. Hyperhidrosis usually occurs in one area of the body, the most common parts being the feet, hands, armpits, and forehead.
What Causes Hyperhidrosis?
There are two types of hyperhidrosis – primary and secondary hyperhidrosis.
- Primary hyperhidrosis causes excessive sweating on both sides of the body. There’s no known reason for this type of abnormal sweating. It is believed family history plays a role in primary hyperhidrosis. It usually starts in childhood or teenage years.
- Secondary hyperhidrosis, on the other hand, is caused by underlying medical conditions such as cardiovascular and respiratory disorders, endocrine or metabolic disorders, neurological conditions, infection, menopause, cancer, or hyperthyroidism.
Hyperhidrosis Treatment
Given that secondary hyperhidrosis is caused by underlying medical conditions, treatment involves treating the underlying medical condition. The first instance of primary hyperhidrosis is usually treated through topical application of aluminum chloride, which is found in most antiperspirants, but most people with excessive perspiration do not respond to topical treatments.
Anticholinergic medications are also used to treat primary hyperhidrosis. These work on the automatic nervous system to reduce sweating, but they can cause blurred vision, constipation, urinary retention problems, and dry mouth.
Anti-wrinkle Injections to Treat Hyperhidrosis
The most common hyperhidrosis treatment today is anti-wrinkle injections. Anti-wrinkle injections, or neuromodulators, temporarily paralyze the nerve signals that go to the sweat glands in the area they are injected. Since hyperhidrosis is caused by overactive nerves activating the sweat glands, neuromodulators are effective in reducing hyperhidrosis in localized areas such as the face, scalp, underarms, feet, and palms.
Anti-wrinkle injections do not have permanent side effects, and you will not experience any downtime. You simply need to walk in for the procedure, and you will be done in about 20 minutes. It takes about 7 days to start noticing results and about 2 weeks for complete dryness. Note the treatment results lasts about 18 months for the face and armpits and about 6 months for the hands and feet.
If you are diagnosed with hyperhidrosis by a physician, treatment can be covered by private insurance in Canada. Please check with your provider for requirements.
Migraines
Is it just a headache?
Migraine is an intense pounding headache which usually includes different symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, vomiting, irritability, etc. It is a chronic condition, and its active phase can last from 2 to 48 hours. However, a person suffering from migraine often feels sick long before and after the active phase. Needless to say, a migraine is a complex neurological condition. However, there is an effective method of aesthetic medicine which can significantly loosen its symptoms. Surprisingly to many, it is neuromodulator injections known as botox.
Botox/neuromodulators injections: migraine pain relief
How can migraine and botox be connected?
In a nutshell, botox or botulinum toxin blocks specific nerves, so they do not signal the muscles to contract. That is how only one injection can smooth wrinkles and rejuvenate your skin. Besides cosmetology, botox can be used in other spheres. For instance, injections in the armpit area temporarily block sweat glands and prevent hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating). Another problem that botox can effectively solve is chronic migraine pain. Years ago people who got botox shoots in the face area started noticing a significant headache relief. Scientists began to study this side effect and revealed that botox also blocks pain signals on the way from the brain to the muscles. Unfortunately, it is impossible to cure a person who suffers from migraine, but botox can reduce the number of its active phases and improve their condition significantly. It is worth mentioning that botox is only Health Canada and FDA-approved medication for chronic migraines.
Who can benefit from the botox therapy course?
Botox injections are recommended for people with a long history of migraine pain and who suffer from headaches of different types more than 15 days per month. Before consulting a medical aesthetician, make sure you have a consultation with your family doctor or neurologist first. Typically, doctors recommend trying other treatment methods such as antidepressants, anti-seizure or blood pressure medications, etc. If those methods can not succeed you can go for botox treatment.
What does the procedure look like at Beauty Maison Aesthetics?
After the consultation, our specialist learns your needs, gives general recommendations or creates an individualized plan of further treatment. Then, a certified nurse injector gives you a few injections of botulinum toxin in the head and neck areas. The treatment duration depends on a particular case, but it is generally recommended to do three sessions 3-4 months apart to evaluate the full effect and degree of improvement. Majority of cases see the improvement after first treatment.

Lip Flip
Lip flip is an add on treatment at Beauty Maison Aesthetics. It is a quick procedure done using neuromodulators (aka Botox, Dysport). Lip flip will allow for more clearly defined lip shape and more sensual appearance. In some people the top lip inverts or “disappears” while they are talking or smiling. A lip flip treatment will relax the perioral muscle responsible for pulling that lip to invert, therefore there will be more visible part of lip noticeable during smiling or talking. This will produce an illusion of fuller lip without adding any extra volume. Many people try this treatment prior initial lip filler injection to see if they will like the appearance. Also if you have a gummy smile, lip flip will help to cover the visible part of the gum.
Who is a good candidate for lip flip?
You may consider doing lip flip if you:
- Want your lips to look fuller. As we age, our lips may become smaller and thinner. Lip flip will create a larger looking lip.
- Don’t want lips fillers. Filler may change the shape of your lips and has some downtime due to to temporarily swelling and bruising.
- You want your gums showing less. A fuller lip will cover some of your gums when smiling creating more appealing smile.
- Want to get rid of wrinkles around your lips.
When will I see the results?
Results are typically tend to kick in 5-7 days, however the full effect will be seen in two weeks.
How long does the effect last?
Results vary and depend on individual circumstances. However in general the effect of lip flip lasts from 2.5 to 3.5 months. It wears off quicker than in other face parts due to lips being highly movable and active area.
Can lip flip be done with lip filler?
Yes it can be and actually it is recommended for people with high inversion of upper lip. There is an increased chance of migration of filler in people with upper lip inversion due to frequent pressuring on that filler.
After the procedure:
- Do not rub or massage lips.
- Avoid blood thinning medications and vitamins for 24 hours to prevent bruising.
- Do not smoke for 4 hours post procedure to avoid infection.
Nose Lift
Nose Tip Lift Neuromodulators
Nasal tip ptosis, or drooping nose, occurs when the tip of the nose is more caudal than is ideal. As you age, the nose loses collagen and starts drooping. Even a nose from your younger years will not be immune to the effects of nature and time. So, why should you lift a drooping nose tip?
Facial harmony has a big impact on the aesthetics of the entire face. If the nose tip becomes more bulbous, the distance between the base of the nose and the lips appears shorter. A droopy tip makes the upper lip look much longer, which ages the lower face.
What Causes a Droopy Nose?
Those with overly strong septi muscle have a droopy nasal tip. The depressor septi muscle is the muscle that connects the upper lip to the central base of the nose. As we age, the shape of the eye sockets deepens, making the nasal bridge appear more prominent, and the eyes appear close together. Lowering the height of the nasal dorsum can rejuvenate the face. The falling of the tip also causes the nostrils to start widening and the nasal dorsum to be more prominent, which can affect the entire balance of the face.
Surgical Nose Tip Lift Treatment
Correction of this deformity is challenging. Plastic surgeons reduce the depressor septi muscle in a procedure called closed (endonasal) rhinoplasty. With this procedure, an external incision is not necessary, and the muscle can be addressed through incisions hidden in the gum line inside the upper lip or internal nasal incisions.
The reduction, cutting, or detachment of the depressor septi muscle can be performed as part of an entire rhinoplasty (such as hump reduction) or in isolation. The droopy nasal tip may require additional operations like cartilage reshaping, sutures, and cartilage grafts. Being a surgical procedure, there are some risks with rhinoplasty. These include bleeding, infection, adverse reaction to anesthesia, difficulty breathing through the nose, permanent numbness around and in the nose, scarring, septal perforation, pain, discoloration and or swelling, and an uneven-looking nose. So, what is the alternative to rhinoplasty?
Non-Surgical Nose Tip Lift Treatment
Neuromodulators are the nose-shaping solutions you need to lift your nose to where it belongs. This treatment option is less invasive and may give you results that are just as good as rhinoplasty.
Despite popular belief, neuromodulators do not lift up the nose. Rather, they relax the depressor septi nasi muscle that is responsible for pulling the nasal tip downwards. Neuromodulator injections are done at the base of the nose to prevent the tip from turning down. A neuromodulator injection can also be done on the upper lip muscle to prevent gum exposure and create a smile that is less gummy. Injection with neuromodulators is a quick office procedure. It takes between one and two weeks for the results to be apparent. The results will last three to four months.
Nose Slimming
Shape and size of your nose can have a significant impact on you overall facial appearance. Surgical intervention is invasive and can be challenging so botox injection as known as neuromodulators injection is a great solution. Among with nose tip lift procedure, a nose slimming can also be done.
Some people have naturally wider nostrils that flare with heavy breathing or talking. If you are bothered by excessive flaring of your nostrils, an anti wrinkle injection might be right for you. Right facial proportions gives you harmonized appearance.
How does nose slimming work?
A small amount of neuromodulator is injected with tiny needle to the sides of nostrils. The muscle called Alar Nasalis will become limited in its activity which will create a slimmer look of nose. The nostrils will not be expanding too widely with facial expressions. There will a slimming effect created from both sides of nostrils.
Results
Results can be seen in 10 to 14 days and the effect will last for about 4 to 6 months.
Why do I need a nose slimming?
Nose slimming is a quick non invasive procedure. It is a great alternative to complicated surgical nose job without any recovery time. There are much fewer risks and there is no pain as numbing cream can be applied if needed.
Slimming your nose can create a more balanced facial appearance and giving you the confidence and self esteem you might have been missing.

Pore Tightening
Enlarged pores is the skin issue that is difficult to deal with. There are some creams and serums but it is hard to find the one that will work for you. It is also quite stressful to hide that problem, make up is not able to cover completely enlarged pores and they still remain quite visible. If you suffer from enlarged pores and excess sebum production then botox facial (aka neuromodulator) will be quite beneficial treatment for you.
Neuromodulators such as Botox or Dysport have been used for wrinkle injection for years now until recently it was discovered that if injected more superficially it will improve skin quality and also can control sebaceous gland activity.
Major Benefits include:
- Decreased size of enlarged pores
- Decreased extra production of sebum making skin less oily and shiny
- Reduces general flushing redness
- Improves overall skin texture making it smoother and softer
- Reduced appearance of fine lines
- Chosen vitamins target specific concerns such as pigmentation, tone, texture, tightness, elasticity firmness, brightness, tightness of skin and many more.
How does it work?
Tiny muscles in skin that are called pili muscle are responsible for contraction and pushing sebaceous oil into pores. Pores become clogged with that sebum and debris and as a result have an enlarged appearance. Neuromodulator temporary paralyzes that muscle, therefore it does not push out excess sebum. As a result pores decrease in size and there is decrease in oil production which makes skin looking toned and airbrushed.
How is “Botox” facial done?
Neuromodulators can be applied by two different ways to improve skin quality and reduce appearance of enlarged pores.
- Superficial intradermal injections. Neuromodulator can be hyper diluted diluted with mesotherapy cocktail or just saline and injected very superficially using tiny needles. It will allow for product to stay on very top layer of the skin where it should work. Hyper diluted neuromodulator will not be able to pass through and affect muscles that are responsible for facial movement so your facial expressions will not be affected with this technique.
- Microneedling. Diluted neuromodulator can be applied during your microneedling session on your areas of concern. It will get absorbed by open channels from microneedling and will get delivered to dermal layer of skin. Micronnedling itself has plenty of benefits such as tightened and brightened skin, even tone and texture, improved appearance of fine lines and pigmentation. Combination of these two treatments will provide outstanding results.
What to expect
Following your treatment you may have some minimal redness from injection points that will fade away by the end of the day. You may begin to see the effect in 3 to 5 days. The skin will be smoother and pores will be decreased in size. Some people notice also decrease number of breakout periods.
The results generally last for up to 4 month. We recommend to return after that period for maintenance treatment.
For the maximum effect Beauty Maison Aesthetics experts suggest to combine your “botox” facial with our signature medical grade chemical peels and professional line pore tightening serum that does magic. Our treatments will give you the results that you will want to keep.
Treatment cost
- Botox facial with vitamin complex – $300
- Microneedling Botox facial – $475 (includes numbing cream and individualized mix of vitamins with hualuronic acid)
Brow Lift
Neuromodulators as known as Botox or Dysport can be used to elevate the lateral part of eyebrow which is called “botox brow lift”. A small amount of neuromodulator is injected in orbicularis oculii muscle which is circular muscle around the eye responsible for closing an eye and forces squeezing.
Neuromodulator is injected in specific area of that muscle allowing only to act at a targeted spot. As a result the depressor muscle will be temporarily relaxed giving you more youthful and refined look. With our injection technique you will still have some facial movement allowing to have natural look.
Who is a good candidate for a brow lift?
People with droopy brows and heavy upper eyelids can be bothered by it. Also repeated facial movements and decreased elasticity of aging skin leads to forming wrinkles and heaviness in that area. Neuromodulator injection can significantly improve the appearance of these problems.
Brow lift also helps to open up the eyes and create more space for make up application. Procedure creates a refreshed and rejuvenated look giving you more confidence.
Treatment and results.
Before the treatment you will have a detailed consultation with our certified nurse injector. During that consultation you will have a detailed step by step explanation of the procedure and all your questions will be answered. Thorough assessment will be performed and at the end you will be given verbal nd written instructions for aftercare.
Brow lift is quick office procedure taking approximately 15 minutes. There is no downtime, you will be able to return to your regular activities right after. However you should remain upright for 4 hours after and avoid rubbing and massaging the area.
You will start noticing the effect in 3 to 5 days until the full results could be seen 2 weeks after. Although anti wrinkle treatment is not a permanent solution, he effect of neurotoxin lasts on average 3 to 4 months.
If you would like the effect to last longer you would need a follow up maintenance appointments.
Gummy Smile Treatment
Many people struggle with a gummy smile. If you have a gummy smile, you probably avoid smiling whenever you meet new people or when you need to have a photo taken. This is why the certified experts at Beauty Maison Aesthetics use Botox injections to reduce how a gummy smile appears and instead reveal more of your beautiful teeth. In the past, it was difficult to treat a gummy smile with surgery and other invasive procedures. Currently, Botox provides a non-invasive procedure for addressing a gummy smile.
What is a Gummy Smile?
You have a gummy smile if, whenever you smile, excess gum tissue shows instead of your beautiful teeth. It’s not always easy to tell if you have a gummy smile. For instance, some people are born with naturally prominent gums. The muscles in your upper lip might also pull back and push the gum tissue forward. You can now fix a gummy smile with neuromodulators/Botox injections without having to undergo surgery.
How Botox Helps a Gummy Smile
Botox injections are often associated with wrinkled feet but could also address gummy smiles. The injection of Botox into the muscles of your upper lip makes them relax. This reduces the tension that makes your gums show, allowing you to enjoy a natural-looking smile that shows your teeth instead of gums.
Here are the main benefits of using Botox to fix a gummy smile:
- You will notice the results in a short period
- Your face appears natural; it won’t appear fake or pulled
- The results could last for up to four months without the need for follow up treatment
Who Can Undergo the Treatment?
During the consultation, our certified cosmetic injector will consider your medical history to determine if you can undergo the treatment. During this assessment, you should inform the injector about:
- Any allergies to Botulinum toxin products
- Whether you suffer from a disease that affects your muscles or nerves
- If you are currently on any medication
- If you have undergone facial surgery or intend to undergo it in the future
- If you are currently pregnant or planning to become pregnant
The Treatment Plan
During the initial consultation, the team at Beauty Maison Aesthetics will review your cosmetic goals. The next step involves creating a personalized treatment plan while giving you clear expectations of what will happen during the treatment and afterwards. The procedure involves administering a series of small injections in specific areas to target muscles that are responsible for pulling the upper lip above teeth exposing the gum. There are no incisions or plastic surgery.
It’s normal to experience slight swelling after Botox injections. However, the procedure has no downtime; you can resume your regular activities immediately after the treatment. However, you should avoid strenuous activities immediately after the treatment. You should also avoid pressing down on the treatment areas for the first 24 hours after treatment. You will be provided with verbal and written follow up instructions. We will let you know whether you should come back for a follow-up.

Reverse Smile Treatment
Cauliflower / Dimpled Chin Treatment
The most common chin problems are double chins, small chins, receding chins, chins that are out of proportion to the rest of the face, weak chin/lack of proper jawline definition, and chin dimpling or wrinkling. There are different causes for these chin issues. As an example, double and receding chins are a result of ageing. Those with an overbite are more susceptible to weak chins and double chins.
Cauliflower or dimpled chins and other chin problems are caused by the size, relative tension, and position of the mentalis muscle. This is a muscle in the chin that extends from the crease under the lower lip to the bottom of the central chin. The muscle is a paired group – there are two muscles on either side of the chin with a gap in the middle. The muscle is responsible for elevating the lower lip.
What is a Dimpled Chin and What Causes It?
Dimpled chin, also called peau d’orange or “orange peel skin” is a condition where the skin has the dimpled texture of cauliflower or an orange peel. The dimples on the chin cannot be easily covered with makeup and other cosmetic products.
What Causes Dimpled Chin?
A dimpled chin is caused by the straining of the mentalis muscle. The muscle is hyperactive, and many people are unaware they are constantly contracting it, such as when focusing or concentrating on a task. The continuous stretching of the skin is what leads to the dimpled appearance. Patients born with an overbite or a weak chin may strain the muscle and often have a hard time keeping their lips open. Other than genetic reasons, failure of the mentalis muscle to attach to the lower chin board could also be due to prior jaw surgery that leaves the muscle at a higher position than it previously was. High-riding mentalis muscles have a ball-like appearance when viewed from the front and a blunted appearance when viewed in profile.
Dimpled Chin Treatment Using Neuromodulators
Neuromodulators are one of the most common treatment options for cauliflower/dimpled chins. They work by smoothing the skin. Neuromodulators are basically “anti-wrinkle” injections that are usually used for wrinkled foreheads, but they are also effective on the chin. If the dimpled chin is a result of chin surgery, the injection can still be given after the surgery. Neuromodulators work by blocking the signal from the nerve that tells the muscles to contract, essentially freezing the muscle. This relaxes the muscle.
The procedure can be completed in a matter of minutes. It starts with the cleaning of the area to prepare for the injection, marking the area where the needle will be inserted, injection, and then application of pressure on the injected area. You may feel some discomfort and may get some temporary bruising, soreness, or redness in the area, but this should fade quickly. Results usually come quickly, but it may take up to four to seven days to start seeing results. Other than relieving dimpling, neuromodulators also improve the jawline contour and complement the lower lip.
Bruxism or Teeth Clenching
Bruxism is a condition characterized by grinding and clenching the teeth while you sleep. However, some people experience bruxism even while awake. The leading causes of teeth grinding include stress/anxiety, crooked or missing teeth, an abnormal bite, or sleep disorders like sleep apnea. People who experience sleep bruxism must wear a mouth guard while sleeping to reduce the damage to the teeth and jaw. Recent research indicates that Botox is effective in reducing the symptoms and discomfort of teeth grinding. Botox is typically known for easing the appearance of wrinkles. However, it also helps relax any muscles it is injected into.
After years of sleep bruxism, the masseter muscles could be enlarged, resulting in an appearance of a strong, square jaw. Particularly women dislike this appearance because it detracts from a feminine look. Botox injections shrink the masseter muscles and soften the jawline.
The Benefits of Botox
Experts recommend the injection of Botox into the masseter muscle to relieve teeth grinding instead of relying on mouth guards. Even if mouth guards help, they only protect the teeth. The leading benefits of jawbone Botox are:
- Relieves jaw tension
- Eliminates headaches
- Reduces pain caused by jaw clenching and teeth grinding
- Balances the face
What to Expect from Jaw Botox?
A Botox treatment takes between 10 and 15 minutes. On a scale of 1 to 10, the pain level is 1-2. After a Botox injection, it could take up to one week before you get relief from the jaw pain and clenching. It will take several weeks for Botox to take full effect.
It’s normal to experience minimal discomfort after the treatment. However, some people do not experience any discomfort. You could also experience little to no bruising. You can apply makeup immediately after the treatment and go back to your regular activities. Usually, the benefits of botox last for 3-4 months.
- You will notice the results in a short period
- Your face appears natural; it won’t appear fake or pulled
- The results could last for up to four months without the need for follow up treatment
After a Botox Injection
If you experience bruising or swelling after a Botox injection, apply an icepack at the injection site for 10-20 minutes. You should ensure that you adhere to all doctor’s instructions after receiving a Botox injection. For example, you should wait a minimum of four hours before lying down. You should not engage in strenuous activity for the first 24 hours after the injection. If you fail to follow the doctor’s instructions, Botox could migrate to other parts of the face, rendering the procedure ineffective.
The effects of the treatment will wear off after several months. Therefore, you will have to undergo additional treatment.
Teeth Grinding Will Stop Gradually
You might not notice the difference in the first few weeks after a jaw Botox. You might still grind and clench your teeth and even get tension headaches. Note that:
- When Botox is injected to reduce fine lines and relax facial muscles, the effects are seen within 7-10 days
- When used for TMD and pain associated with teeth grinding, effects are seen within one week
- When Botox is used to reduce masseter muscle hypertrophy, the effect is seen within six weeks to three months
After treatment, you will find yourself having to actively relax your muscles less and less. The headaches will also stop.
If you have bruxism or suspect that you have TMD, book a bruxism consultation at Beauty Maison Aesthetics. We will determine if you are a good candidate for Botox injections.
